Henley Construction Management Group is proud to celebrate local boxer Cory O’Regan following his victory over Joe Howarth to become the new English Lightweight Champion.

Cory secured the title at Co-op Live in Manchester, winning by unanimous decision over ten rounds.

For Henley, the result is particularly special. We have proudly supported Cory for a number of years and have followed his professional career through the highs, setbacks and the countless hours of work that happen away from fight night.

A local lad from Liversedge, Cory started boxing at Cleckheaton Boxing Academy at just 10 years old. He went on to have around 80 amateur fights, represent England and win gold at the Great Britain Elite Three Nations before making the move into the professional ranks.

His journey has not always been straightforward. His career was interrupted by the pandemic, and he has had to wait for the opportunities to demonstrate what he can do at championship level. That makes seeing him with the English title around his waist all the more rewarding.

Supporting local talent

As a Yorkshire-based business working across the UK, we believe there is real value in supporting talented people within the communities around us.

Sponsorship at this level of sport plays a small but important part in helping athletes continue to train, compete and pursue opportunities. We are proud to have played our part in Cory’s journey and, most importantly, to have continued that support over a number of years.

Cory visited the Henley offices following his win, giving the team the opportunity to congratulate him in person and see the new belt.

Everyone at Henley is incredibly proud of what he has achieved. The English title is a major milestone, but knowing Cory’s ambition, we are sure he will already be looking towards the next challenge.

Congratulations, Cory. Thoroughly deserved – and hopefully plenty more to come

Celebrating Excellence: Phoenix Mill, Wins Wakefield Civic Society Restoration Award

Phoenix Mill restoration Wakefield has been recognised with a Wakefield Civic Society award, following its transformation by Henley Restoration & Remedials at Tileyard North.

The award recognises the restoration of a prominent early 19th-century mill building that had fallen into a derelict condition. The project forms part of the wider Tileyard North regeneration, delivered for City & Provincial, Historic England, Wakefield Council and designed by Hawkins\Brown

Delivering a complex scheme

Phoenix Mill presented a challenging setting alongside the River Calder, requiring a carefully coordinated programme of partial demolition, structural stabilisation and sensitive reconstruction.

Henley Restoration & Remedials led the delivery of extensive external, internal and structural repairs, alongside landscaping and architectural metalwork, ensuring the building’s historic fabric was retained while meeting modern standards.

Due to restricted access, traditional scaffolding was not feasible. A bespoke cantilevered scaffold system on a floating pontoon, anchored within the building’s basement, was developed to enable safe and effective works.

Conservation-led detailing was central throughout, including traditional brickwork repairs, sympathetic window installation, and comprehensive roof and drainage upgrades. Stainless steel railings and staircases, fabricated by HZS Stainless Steel Ltd, completed the scheme.

New Chapter for Henley Construction Management Group

Henley Construction Management Group has completed a management buyout alongside the acquisition of façade engineering consultancy Smart Crosby International (SCI), marking a significant step forward for the business.

Together, these moves strengthen both leadership and technical capability across the group and create a clear platform for future growth.

The business is now led by longstanding senior team members Tom Cardoe, Jon Henley, Dave Cawley and Jim Wenham. Founding directors Shaun and Zoe Henley remain involved, continuing to support the group at a strategic level.

Tom Cardoe said:
“We are really pleased to complete the MBO and bring SCI into the group. It is an important step for the business and gives us a strong platform for the next phase of growth.”

Supporting heritage and existing buildings

A large part of the group’s work involves the restoration, refurbishment and ongoing care of existing buildings, including heritage and listed assets.

The addition of SCI strengthens this area significantly. Their expertise in façade engineering, structural analysis and technical coordination supports a more informed approach to assessing existing structures and developing appropriate repair strategies.

This is particularly important on heritage projects, where understanding how a building performs is key. Early technical input helps ensure that interventions are properly considered, sympathetic to the original construction, and designed to last.

Dave Cawley said:
“SCI has worked alongside us for a number of years, so bringing them into the group is a natural next step. Their technical expertise strengthens what we can offer across the board.”

SCI will also continue to act independently for clients where required, maintaining their role in providing impartial engineering advice.

A joined-up approach

SCI is a long-standing partner to the group, and there is already a strong understanding between teams. This supports a more coordinated approach across façade works, structural considerations and on-site delivery.

For clients, this means greater confidence that issues are properly understood and resolved, particularly on complex refurbishment and conservation projects.

Building on strong foundations

Since its formation in 2012, Henley Construction Management Group has grown to include Henley Stone Specialists, Henley Restoration & Remedials and HZS Stainless Steel.

Jon Henley said:
“We are building on what has already been established and focusing on steady, sustainable growth with a strong pipeline of work in place.”

The group continues to operate with a clear focus on quality, delivery and attention to detail across all divisions.

Looking ahead

With a strong pipeline of work and enhanced technical capability, the group is well placed to take on increasingly complex restoration, refurbishment and façade projects.

This marks a positive step forward for Henley Construction Management Group as it continues to support the long-term performance and preservation of buildings across the UK.

University of Gloucestershire Basement Refurbishment Wins Structural Concrete Alliance Award

We are proud to announce that the University of Gloucestershire Basement Refurbishment Project has been recognised with a Structural Concrete Alliance Award, celebrating best practice and technical excellence in specialist concrete repair.

A complex refurbishment challenge

The refurbishment of the basement presented a technically demanding challenge. Extensive deterioration to the existing concrete soffits was identified, requiring a robust, proven repair solution capable of delivering long-term structural integrity while working within a tight programme. In total, the repairs covered approximately 1,300m² of basement soffit area.

The works were delivered by our specialist team at Henley Restoration and Remedials, working on behalf of our valued client Morgan Sindall Construction. Careful planning and sequencing allowed the project to be completed within a demanding six-week programme, while maintaining quality and safety standards throughout.

Following detailed investigation and specification, Fosroc Dry Spray repair solutions were selected as the most suitable system for the works. The system provided excellent compatibility with the existing structure and allowed for efficient application, helping to maintain programme certainty and enable the basement to be returned to service promptly for follow-on trades.

Meticulous surface preparation by the Henley team ensured the repair materials performed to their full potential, delivering consistent application, strong adhesion, and a durable, high-quality finish once cured.

The success of the project is reflected in feedback from the main contractor:

“Following meticulous surface preparation by Henley and the project team, the Fosroc products performed to their full potential. The result is a durable, high-quality repair that fully meets both the structural and aesthetic objectives of the project.”
James Lawley, Senior Project Manager, Morgan Sindall Construction

Industry recognition

The Structural Concrete Alliance Awards are judged by industry professionals and recognise projects that demonstrate technical excellence, appropriate specification, quality workmanship, and strong collaboration across the supply chain. Winning this award highlights the standard of specialist expertise applied to this refurbishment and the strength of teamwork throughout the project.

We would like to thank our client and project partners for their collaboration and trust. This award is a proud achievement for everyone involved and a strong endorsement of our approach to delivering high-quality concrete repair and refurbishment solutions.
