Restoration and Fire Protection at the University of Gloucestershire

Client: Morgan Sindall Construction (Central & West)
Location: University of Gloucestershire
Division: Henley Restoration and Remedials
Scope: Basement Soffits Concrete Repairs, Fire Protection, and Media Blasting
Project Size: 1,300m²
Duration: 6 weeks

Overview

Henley Group’s Restoration and Remedials division recently partnered with Morgan Sindall Construction to undertake essential repairs at the University of Gloucestershire. The project involved restoring deteriorated concrete soffits in the basement and applying critical fire protection treatments. Despite a tight 6-week timeframe, our team successfully completed the work, ensuring the structural integrity of the space while adhering to fire safety standards.

Challenges and Approach

  1. Concrete Repairs: The basement soffits had deteriorated significantly over time. Our team utilised media blasting to remove damaged concrete and prepare the surfaces for restoration. This method allowed us to safely and efficiently clean the areas in preparation for repairs.
  2. Fosroc Dry Spray Application: After surface preparation, we applied a Fosroc Dry Spray solution as specified by the client to reinforce the structure and ensure durability.
  3. Fire Protection: Fire-resistant coatings were applied to key areas in compliance with modern safety regulations, further enhancing the safety and longevity of the building.

Results

  • On-Time Completion: The project was completed within the planned 6 weeks, ensuring no delays to Morgan Sindall’s overall schedule.
  • High-Quality Restoration: The use of specialist techniques ensured a durable repair, improving the structural integrity of the soffits and providing vital fire protection.

Conclusion

Henley Group’s expertise in concrete repair and fire protection, combined with effective collaboration with Morgan Sindall, ensured a successful outcome for this critical project at the University of Gloucestershire. We are proud to have delivered a high-quality solution that meets both structural and safety standards.
