Henley Restoration & Remedials Celebrates 10 Years of Excellence in Heritage Restoration

Henley Restoration & Remedials, a renowned company within the Henley Construction Management Group, proudly celebrates its 10-year anniversary, highlighting its expertise and unwavering commitment to preserving the UK’s architectural heritage.

A Legacy of Preservation

Specialising in the restoration of historic buildings, Henley Restoration & Remedials serves clients across the UK, expertly managing the conservation and restoration of Grade I and II-listed structures and scheduled monuments.

A Decade of Growth and Leadership

Founded in 2014 by award-winning construction professional Shaun Henley and remedials masonry expert Matt Cummins, the company has consistently set benchmarks in the industry. Their collaborative vision fostered a team of highly skilled craftsmen trained in specialised repair techniques. Matt introduced an innovative custom brick-tinting system, creating bespoke colour solutions on-site, which enhances the aesthetic, character and weather resistance of historic and modern structures. With our knowledgeable Restoration MD, Tom Cardoe, completing the trusted leadership team, Henley Restoration & Remedials has seen remarkable 50% year-on-year growth, reflecting the countries increasing demand for heritage conservation and restoration. This success reflects the collective efforts of our senior leadership and skilled teams, all dedicated to upholding the highest standards of quality and historical accuracy, ensuring the preservation of our heritage legacies.

Tom Cardoe, Managing Director of Restoration, emphasised the companies unwavering commitment to historic preservation:

“During our project involvement in the restoration and conservation of listed building, we are all custodians of these historical sites. We have a huge responsibility ensuring our buildings and structures are preserved and not excessively affected by our interventions. Our passion, professionalism, and commitment to the task at hand guarantee that every building and structure under our care receives the highest level of preservation. Safeguarding our architectural heritage is a core priority for us, both before and throughout every project we undertake.”

 Precision in Heritage Projects

Henley Restoration & Remedials serves clients nationwide, reflecting its status as a highly specialised restoration and conservation contractor and consultant. Known for its meticulous approach to project scoping and conservation reporting, the company utilises modern technologies such as advanced geospatial surveying, Revit Models and Point Cloud data to achieve precision in even the most sensitive restoration projects. A recent highlight includes the restoration of the highly significant 20 Grosvenor Gardens House in London, where the team are preserving a Grade II-listed Parisian mansion block, seamlessly blending historic preservation methods with modern construction techniques.

Beyond its London-based projects, Henley is actively engaged in prominent schemes across the North, including the Tileyard North development in Wakefield, set to become the UK’s largest creative hub outside of London. As part of this initiative, Henley recently completed extensive brickwork restoration on The Calder Mill, soon to be transformed into a boutique hotel, along with a significant new-build brickwork project providing premium office space. Currently, as the principal contractor on the Grade II-listed Phoenix Mill, Henley is undertaking comprehensive external and structural repairs to ensure that the restoration meets the highest standards whilst working closely with all partners to preserve the historic character and charm of the oldest mill within the Tileyard North development.

Henley Group 10-year anniversary

10th anniversary sees Henley Group secure brand-new headquarters

Yorkshire-based construction specialist, Henley Group, is celebrating its 10th anniversary with an 85% increase in YOY sales and a brand-new state of the art office in Wakefield to accommodate its expanding team and further establish itself as one of the UK’s leading specialist construction companies.

The investment in office space and new hires comes as Henley Group reports not only an 85% increase in YOY sales but also a rise in operating profits of 192%. It is on track for circa £12m+ turnover this financial year.

The Company has invested significantly in its team within the last 12 months, hiring seven office-based employees and bringing the permanent team number to 23. The brand-new headquarters enables further space for the business to expand, with ten more hires forecasted by mid-2024. Henley Group also employs 80 contracted tradesmen and operatives and is looking to employ 15 more workers in this sector within the next 12 months.

The new two-storey office occupies over 6000 ft2, with brand new facilities and excellent motorway access within easy commuting distance for key management and staff. The re-location will not only accommodate the growing team, but the area has an excellent talent pool of skilled operatives and managers within the construction sector, which will help to further facilitate expansion plans.

When it all began…

Managing Director, Shaun Henley, founded the business in 2012, beginning his career on site learning the skills of the trade on both small and large-scale residential and commercial projects. With finite funding available, Shaun invested the money into setting up his own construction firm, offering bespoke stonemasonry and brickwork services.

Henley Group now comprises a growing portfolio of businesses including Henley Stone Specialists, Henley Restoration and Remedials, and Henley Rail Services.

Shaun commented: “I’m really proud of how far the company has come in the last ten years since our first project in 2013. It’s a testament to the team that we’ve been able to grow this rapidly, without compromising on our core values, quality and safety.

“It’s been a difficult few years for businesses in most sectors and the construction industry is no exception, impacted by way of job losses, rising costs and key players exiting the market. While it’s been a challenging time, by focusing on uncompromising quality, expanding our service offering and business portfolio and forging key relationships, we’ve been able to buck this trend and we’re excited for what the next decade will bring.”

Prestigious projects…

Most recently, Henley Group has worked on some of the industry’s most prestigious projects, including the natural stone rebuild of Burberry’s flagship New Bond Street store, and the entire GRC installation on what was Europe’s largest stand-alone GRC project, HSBC’s new retail banking headquarters in Birmingham. In addition, Henley Group constructed the full masonry package at the Royal Pavilion in Poundbury, which was opened by Queen Elizabeth II, during which Shaun had the honour of meeting the then-HRH Prince of Wales.

Speaking about the vision and next steps for the business, Shaun said: “Our next proposition is ‘Project Eagle’, which will be the next stage in establishing an integrated construction group that offers specialist services and products by optimising Henley Group’s current position in specific sub-sectors of the UK construction market.”

Award wins…

Not only has the business had some spectacular results financially but under Shaun’s leadership and guidance, Henley Group has won several prestigious awards. One of these is the “Supreme winner for the best projects in 30 years” at the 30th Anniversary Awards of the UK Cast Stone Association (UKCSA).
