Henley Construction Management Group is proud to celebrate local boxer Cory O’Regan following his victory over Joe Howarth to become the new English Lightweight Champion.

Cory secured the title at Co-op Live in Manchester, winning by unanimous decision over ten rounds.

For Henley, the result is particularly special. We have proudly supported Cory for a number of years and have followed his professional career through the highs, setbacks and the countless hours of work that happen away from fight night.

A local lad from Liversedge, Cory started boxing at Cleckheaton Boxing Academy at just 10 years old. He went on to have around 80 amateur fights, represent England and win gold at the Great Britain Elite Three Nations before making the move into the professional ranks.

His journey has not always been straightforward. His career was interrupted by the pandemic, and he has had to wait for the opportunities to demonstrate what he can do at championship level. That makes seeing him with the English title around his waist all the more rewarding.

Supporting local talent

As a Yorkshire-based business working across the UK, we believe there is real value in supporting talented people within the communities around us.

Sponsorship at this level of sport plays a small but important part in helping athletes continue to train, compete and pursue opportunities. We are proud to have played our part in Cory’s journey and, most importantly, to have continued that support over a number of years.

Cory visited the Henley offices following his win, giving the team the opportunity to congratulate him in person and see the new belt.

Everyone at Henley is incredibly proud of what he has achieved. The English title is a major milestone, but knowing Cory’s ambition, we are sure he will already be looking towards the next challenge.

Congratulations, Cory. Thoroughly deserved – and hopefully plenty more to come

Celebrating Excellence: Phoenix Mill, Wins Wakefield Civic Society Restoration Award

Phoenix Mill restoration Wakefield has been recognised with a Wakefield Civic Society award, following its transformation by Henley Restoration & Remedials at Tileyard North.

The award recognises the restoration of a prominent early 19th-century mill building that had fallen into a derelict condition. The project forms part of the wider Tileyard North regeneration, delivered for City & Provincial, Historic England, Wakefield Council and designed by Hawkins\Brown

Delivering a complex scheme

Phoenix Mill presented a challenging setting alongside the River Calder, requiring a carefully coordinated programme of partial demolition, structural stabilisation and sensitive reconstruction.

Henley Restoration & Remedials led the delivery of extensive external, internal and structural repairs, alongside landscaping and architectural metalwork, ensuring the building’s historic fabric was retained while meeting modern standards.

Due to restricted access, traditional scaffolding was not feasible. A bespoke cantilevered scaffold system on a floating pontoon, anchored within the building’s basement, was developed to enable safe and effective works.

Conservation-led detailing was central throughout, including traditional brickwork repairs, sympathetic window installation, and comprehensive roof and drainage upgrades. Stainless steel railings and staircases, fabricated by HZS Stainless Steel Ltd, completed the scheme.

The completed project has brought Phoenix Mill back into use as a high-quality heritage asset within a growing creative and commercial district.

The award recognises the quality of workmanship and the considered approach taken to restoring and adapting the building, highlighting Henley Restoration & Remedials’ expertise in delivering complex heritage and remedial projects.

Phoenix Mill Restoration Complete – A Landmark Transformation at Tileyard North

The restoration of Phoenix Mill marks a major milestone in Wakefield’s ongoing regeneration. This Grade II-listed mill, with over two centuries of Yorkshire’s industrial heritage, has been meticulously restored and now stands renewed as a vibrant cornerstone of Tileyard North, the UK’s largest creative community outside London.

Complex, Specialist Works Delivered to the Highest Standard

Restoring Phoenix Mill demanded exceptional expertise and careful coordination. The project encompassed extensive external, internal, and structural repairs, landscaping, and architectural metalwork, all delivered in a way that balanced modern construction requirements with heritage preservation.

The project involved intricate partial demolition and reconstruction, and the mill’s riverside location on the River Calder presented significant logistical challenges, making traditional scaffolding impossible. To overcome this, a bespoke cantilevered scaffold system was engineered on a floating pontoon and anchored within the mill’s basement. This innovative solution enabled safe, precise restoration work while protecting the building’s historic fabric, demonstrating true engineering ingenuity.

Throughout the project, every element of the mill’s heritage required careful attention. Conservation-approved windows were sensitively installed, and traditional brickwork and pointing techniques restored the façade authentically. Comprehensive roof and drainage work protected both interior and exterior spaces, while thoughtful landscaping and high-quality stainless-steel railings and staircases, fabricated by HZS Stainless Steel Ltd, enhanced accessibility and functionality. Together, these works illustrate the scale, technical complexity, and craftsmanship required to bring Phoenix Mill back to life as a fully functional, modern building without compromising its historic character.

The project was delivered in partnership with Opera Project Management, Hawkins\Brown Architects, Civic Engineers, supported by funding from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund, grant funding from Historic England, and contributions from Wakefield Council and City & Provincial Properties.

“The restoration of the Grade II-listed Phoenix Mill, part of the Tileyard North Scheme in Wakefield, was a complex project that required a blend of construction expertise and in-depth conservation knowledge. Henley Restoration & Remedials played a pivotal role in guiding and delivering the works to meet the strict conservation standards, ensuring the building was carefully restored and primed for its next phase. The team demonstrated a high level of professionalism, with excellent collaboration throughout, which ensured the project was delivered on programme and to the highest level of quality. I would highly recommend them. It truly was a very positive experience working with Henley Restoration and Remedials,  there was a real focus on just getting the job done which is becoming increasingly rare in the construction industry. We will certainly be keeping them in mind for any future works.”  Joe Derham, Project Director, Opera Project Management

………….

“To all the team responsible for the successful completion of Phoenix Mill, thanks you again again for doing an excellent job on the Phoenix building we are very pleased with the end result!” Paul Kempe, Director, City & Provincial Properties.

With Phoenix Mill now fully restored and handed over, Henley Restoration & Remedials looks forward to seeing the building thrive in its new role as a creative and cultural hub. This successful project underscores the team’s expertise in delivering complex, heritage-led restorations, setting the stage for future landmark projects that continue to combine technical excellence with the preservation of historic character.
