The Henley Restoration and Remedials specialist conservation team was engaged in the initial stages of the restoration strategy for what is believed to be the oldest bank building in the UK, the Round House in Evesham, Worcestershire, which dates back to the 15th century.

Our involvement included conducting detailed surveys, preparing conservation reports, and undertaking material analysis to inform the development of a suitable repair strategy. This strategy proposed repairs to historic timber elements, wattle and daub lime render panels, window repairs, and a comprehensive decoration package for the façade.

Built 568 years ago during the reign of Henry VI in the late Middle Ages, The Round House is classified as a building of ‘exceptional interest’ by Historic England. Previously listed as Booth Hall, it is part of an elite group, with only 2.5% of listed buildings designated as Grade I. The proposed works are vital to preserving its historic fabric.

We are proud to have contributed to the essential preparatory work required to safeguard this remarkable building.
