Project Overview

Henley Restoration and Remedials was appointed to undertake a comprehensive programme of conservation and remedial works on a prominent listed building in the heart of Leeds city centre. Due to the sensitive nature of the site and its historical significance, the project required a sympathetic approach aligned with best practices in heritage restoration.

Scope of Works

The scope of this multifaceted project encompassed advanced surveying, detailed material assessments, and a full suite of conservation interventions. Key components of the works included:

  • Detailed 3D Photogrammetry Survey
A high-resolution 3D photogrammetry survey was conducted to capture the building’s external façade in detail. This digital twin enabled precise planning, documentation, and progress tracking throughout the project.

  • Comprehensive Condition Reports & Material Analysis
In-depth surveys and laboratory analysis of original materials were carried out to inform the restoration strategy and ensure compatibility of all conservation materials and methods used.

  • Stone Consolidation and Conservation
Targeted stone repair and consolidation techniques were applied to arrest decay, strengthen vulnerable elements, and restore the integrity of architectural features, while preserving their original fabric.

  • Heritage-Approved Cleaning
Specialist low-impact cleaning methods, compliant with heritage conservation standards, were employed to remove decades of accumulated soiling without damaging the substrate or historic patina.

  • Traditional Lime Pointing
All pointing works were executed using traditional lime mortars, carefully matched for colour and texture to blend seamlessly with the original masonry and maintain breathability.

Site Management & Safety

  • Full Site Set-Up
A bespoke site compound and scaffold system were installed with minimal disruption to local stakeholders, ensuring secure and efficient access for the works.

  • Traffic & Pedestrian Management
Given the building’s location within a high-traffic urban setting, a coordinated traffic and pedestrian management strategy was implemented to maintain safety and accessibility throughout the project.

Outcome

This project successfully balanced the technical challenges of working on a listed structure with the logistical demands of an active city centre location. The building’s aesthetic and structural integrity have been significantly enhanced while safeguarding its heritage value for future generations.
