Overview

Darlington Station, a historic and architecturally significant railway station, required urgent restoration works to address structural weaknesses in two of its stone and brick gable walls. Henley Rail was awarded the contract by CML Civil Engineering to carry out this specialist restoration, aimed at preserving the station’s heritage while ensuring structural integrity.

Scope of Works

• Careful dismantling of the two gable walls, preserving as much original material as possible.
• Detailed assessment and cataloguing of stone and brick units for accurate reconstruction.
• Reconstruction using traditional masonry techniques, combined with modern engineering solutions to ensure long-term stability.
• Close coordination with heritage architects AHR and station operator LNER to maintain architectural integrity and operational continuity.
