West Bromwich Town Hall Restoration Project
Henley Restoration and Remedials, a key division within the Henley Construction Management Group, is proud to showcase our role in restoring the historic Grade II-listed West Bromwich Town Hall. Over the past seven months, we’ve collaborated closely with Morgan Sindall Construction to bring this 150-year-old Victorian landmark back to life, blending expert craftsmanship with innovative solutions.
Award Recognition
“We are honoured that the West Bromwich Town Hall and Library restoration has been recognised with the Victorian Society Birmingham & West Midlands Group’s 10th Annual Conservation Award. This prestigious accolade highlights the quality and care invested throughout the project, especially in preserving the building’s historic fabric and architectural details. The award is a testament to the collaborative effort between Henley Restoration & Remedials, Morgan Sindall Construction, and Sandwell Council, celebrating our shared commitment to heritage conservation excellence.”
Scope of Work
Our team meticulously restored, replaced, and enhanced over 200 windows, some measuring up to 3 meters high and 2 meters wide, including intricate stained-glass details. Additionally, we were entrusted with:
- Lime plastering
- Restoring the terracotta colonnade on the Town Hall tower, one of the building’s standout features.
Thanks to our proactive approach and technical expertise, we were awarded these additional scopes, ensuring the building’s iconic elements were preserved with care and precision.
Challenges and Solutions
Restoring a building of this scale and historical significance presented unique challenges. Our team collaborated closely with the architect and conservation officer to deliver innovative solutions that:
- Preserved original materials.
- Maintained the building’s historic integrity.
- Saved time and reduced costs.
For example, deteriorating terracotta columns initially slated for replacement were carefully restored, showcasing the synergy between our craftsmanship and problem-solving expertise which ultimately saved the client thousands in costs.
Supporting Future Talent
We were delighted to support apprentices from Sandwell College, offering hands-on experience in heritage restoration. One standout student even joined our team on a short-term contract, contributing significantly to the project’s completion while gaining valuable industry insight.
Client Testimonial
“Henley Projects were engaged to work as part of our niche supply chain on the regeneration projects for Sandwell Council. The first of which is the refurbishment of West Bromwich Town Hall & Library, a 150-year-old Victorian building in a state of disrepair. From our very first meeting, it was clear to see the passion, knowledge, and experience that we were looking for were not in short supply, and that has transpired through to the team on site with an excellent attitude and high quality of work that has been recognised by our clients and conservation officer alike. I would not hesitate to recommend Henley Projects.”

Looking Ahead
With our skilled team and dedication to client satisfaction, Henley Restoration and Remedials is proud to continue delivering heritage restoration excellence. We look forward to future collaborations with Morgan Sindall Construction Central and West and other partners, preserving historic landmarks for generations to come.
