Project Details
Royal Pavilion, Poundbury, Duchy of Cornwall
In 1987 the local planning authority, West Dorset District Council, selected Duchy of Cornwall land to the west of Dorchester for future expansion of the town. The Prince of Wales took the opportunity to work with the council to create a model urban extension to this ancient market town.
Construction work on the first phase commenced in October 1993. Design of the final section, the North West Quadrant, is being prepared with construction anticipated to be completed by c2025.
Henley Stone Specialists and Henley Restoration and Remedials worked on this fascinating development, constructing the Royal Pavilion situated on The Queen Mother Square. This neo-classical cast stone and brick building is adorned with colonnades, terraces, vaulted archways and a tower with triumphal arch at is base.
Henley Stone Specialist provided the necessary and valuable masonry skills, knowledge and stone work to enable this neo classical building to be constructed. During the project Henley Restoration and Remedials undertook various cleaning of the façade, undertook stone repairs, cometic and brick tinting repairs.
Ensuring the final product delivered to the client was of an exceptional standard and craftmanship. This was later recognised by UKCSA 30th Anniversary 2021 Awards for: “excellence in the use of cast stone” Cat 3: Supreme overall cast stone project.
